Welcome to the World, Virginia Alice

Words cannot describe how in love we are with our sweet angel!

Virginia -
You are perfect in every way.
In your 11 days outside the womb, you have already brought us more joy than we could have ever imagined!

I won't list ALL of the details of the birth, but here's a recap in pictures...

We checked in to the hospital on Wednesday night (Feb 15th).  Here we are leaving our home for the last time without another little Little:

Wednesday night in our room.

Thursday (Feb 16th), getting ready for a big day!

Handsome daddy... ready with his pink shirt!

To make a long story short, I ended up having a c-section.  It wasn't an emergency situation, thank goodness, but it was still a bit of a shock to me.  All I cared about, though, was that Virginia would arrive as healthy as could be, so on to surgery we went at 4:00pm!

Josh had to wait outside the O.R. while I was being prepped for surgery.  He waited for 25 minutes, which he said felt like an eternity.  Meanwhile, I was on the other side of those doors laying on the operating bed and not daring to look around me at what was going on.  I focused solely on chatting with the sweet nursing student who was shadowing my nurse that day.  She was a talker, and I was glad because it totally took my attention away from the other 10 people scurrying around the room.

After a sheet was thrown up to block the work being done, Josh entered the room at 4:30.

For 3 minutes, he sat at my head and held my hand and we nervously talked without pause about anything and everything that came to mind.  I had been warned by a nurse that "there may be some strange sounds", so I did my best not to hear anything...

...until 4:33 when I heard my baby cry!

A nurse quickly brought her around the curtain for us to get a peek.

After showing her off to Mom and Dad, the nurse took her back to the other side of the room to get weighed and dried off.  Josh peeked over the curtain to see this action... Unfortunately, he said he also caught a glimpse of the rest of the surgery. (He hasn't shared any of these details with me!)

The nurse then brought Virginia back for us to hold while they finished the surgery.  These were the best moments of our lives!!

After I was all stitched and stapled, they wheeled me back to our room with Virginia laying at my side.  I was on cloud nine!

This picture is blurry, but I love Bebe and Pop's reactions to seeing V for the first time!

Josh, Virginia, and I then spent about an hour in our room by ourselves for the "recovery period".  My nurse checked Miss V's vitals (which traumatized Josh!  ...she screamed the whole time) and gave her her first bath, we had the first feeding (which went wonderfully), and I may have gotten a round of Morphine (can't remember the timing of that).

The rest of Thursday evening was... not pretty!  I didn't take to the Morphine very well.  It left me sobbing, shaking, and nauseated for several hours.  I was not in any pain from the surgery, but my emotions were crazy, so I was a wreck!  It was really embarrassing, but I could not stop the tears from flowing.  My face was swollen Thursday night and Friday from all that sobbing!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, it's time for Miss Virginia to eat now!  I'll post the rest of the hospital pictures (and the 1,000,000 that we've taken since we've been home) in the next few days.  Tomorrow will be busy with a visit to the pediatrician and then Virginia's newborn photo shoot with Laura Rowe.  Can't wait for that!

Let's end with a sweet picture of our sweet girl...
