Kitchen Renovations

It's been a while.... but we're back! We have been busy Little bees lately, with lots of projects going on. The biggest project being the kitchen....

Here is the kitchen before we moved in:

We updated the appliances to stainless when we moved in, and Josh installed them....

(Please excuse the counter mess. Also the photo quality... most of these pics were taken on Josh's phone.)

Next, we painted the cabinets, which wasn't an easy chore, but at least it was cheap!

(Yikes - BIG counter mess! I think we were getting ready for our Thanksgiving with friends dinner...)

Next came the countertops and new sink....

(They started ripping up the old "backsplash" for us. We were left with this loveliness for several weeks.)
(Also - please take a moment to smile at that little cuteness in the bottom of the photo.)

Then Josh and Daniel installed the new faucet and hooked up the plumbing under the sink. This ended up being quite the project, but we weren't about to pay close to $300 for a plumber to do it! He also installed some under-the-cabinet lighting that we got at IKEA, which helps a LOT with lighting in the corners.

Next, we put up a beadboard backsplash with trim. If you're interested, here is a blog that we read before starting the project. The last change we made in the kitchen was installing new light fixtures. Josh put these neat-o pendants in where the florescent bar light was and a flushmount fixture in where the mini-fan was. Not having that fan hanging down really makes this little kitchen seem bigger! Here are some final "after" pictures!

Phew... we're glad this project is OVER! Now on to the dining room.... and sewing curtains......

  3. Bonnie, the kitchen looks amazing! So impressed! Question: Did you take the cabinets down to paint them? Obviously I'm guessing the cabinet drawers/doors and everything had to come off, but did you do the rest while they were still hanging on the walls? And what kind of paint/what color did you use and what kind of equipment? We have been looking to brighten things up in our kitchen as well and I think this looks great! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I have been meaning to comment on your most recent post.... The site looks great! Yours and David's expertises are great complements. Good luck with everything! Can't wait to see how it goes.
