I am so proud of Josh! This past weekend he and his friend Tim Davis competed in an Adventure Race at Lake Lurleen here in Tuscaloosa. The race consisted of canoeing 6 miles, running 3 miles, then mountain biking 12 miles. That's 21 miles! Josh really hadn't trained for this at all, so I was kind of nervous about how he'd do. Saturday couldn't have been a prettier day for the race. I stayed out there the whole day to cheer them on, although I wasn't able to see them from the time they started until they came out of the woods on their bikes at the finish line. Well, they were supposed to be ON their bikes when they finished, however when Josh and Tim rounded the corner and were in sight of the crowd... they were Not on their bikes!! Tim was carrying his bike sans a front wheel and Josh was running behind him pulling his bike along and had Tim's front tire over his shoulder. :( Apparently when they were 5 miles into the mountain biking portion, Tim's wheel came off, so they had a tough time finishing 7 more miles. But - they still came in 8th out of 24 teams! It is amazing to me that Josh can do something like that on a whim without training at all. There were so many teams there that do races like this all of the time... they were pretty intense. So to fare that well amongst such great competition, I'd say the boys did great! Josh had such a good time that he is looking for more Adventure Races to compete in.
I didn't get any pictures from Saturday because my camera is dead and I can't find my charger (Anyone know where it is????), but there are some pictures on the Tuscaloosa News's website, along with an article. Unfortunately, I made it into the article! Very embarrasing. Oh well! It was such a fun day!
